Exterior signage at Sovren presented YDI with an interesting design challenge due to the logo’s intricate details. To create balance and visual impact, the design team contrasted the logo’s delicate lines with an intentionally bold return, resulting in a unique presence and profile. A bright yellow finish echoes the building’s architectural accents and reinforces Sovren’s energetic, stylish character.
An integrated mural designed by YDI adds a playful layer to the project. Abstract shapes in varied tones reflect the vibrancy of Hyattsville’s arts district while complementing the architectural and interior finishes. The mural creates a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces, inviting residents to engage with art at every opportunity.
To balance the energy of the exterior and communal spaces, the project’s signage and wayfinding adopt a calmer, more refined tone. YDI designed signs that use marble-like panels with bronze accents to achieve an elevated, sophisticated aesthetic.
The glyph family used throughout interior signage ties into the project’s artistic narrative. Organic, irregular lines create a hand-drawn, expressive feel, reinforcing the project’s connection to creativity while maintaining an approachable, human touch.
