The Chesapeake Baysox’s primary logo highlights the team’s longstanding connection with the Baltimore Orioles as their direct minor league affiliate, using a custom script and color palette that feel at home alongside the Orioles brand.

The comprehensive brand refresh brings back focus to the core of the team’s visual history. Drawing from the team’s past logos, YDI created a simple wave motif that can be used across various applications of the Baysox’s new brand identity – from the primary logo to details in jersey numbers and other marks. The importance of the wave is tied to the team’s history, their location, and their recent name change. In shifting focus from “Bowie” to “Chesapeake,” the team emphasizes its connection to the greater region, and the coastal ecosystem associated with it. To further embrace this shift to all things “Chesapeake,” YDI introduced a new character into the Baysox’s visual language that has long been an iconic part of the region’s imagery and identity: a blue crab.

Jerseys showcase the brand in action – from the subtle integration of waves into player numbers and alternate jerseys, to the blue crab and its Maryland flag banner as representations of local pride. Both the Baysox’s “B” logo and blue crab find their way onto merchandise in the team store at their ballpark in Bowie.

In addition to the Baysox’s brand refresh, YDI designed signage and graphics for Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie that bring that brand to life, from giant bobbleheads to large murals. The wave motif is brought into signage concepts, inspiring the scalloped edge of these banners by the ballpark entrance.

Team colors fill large fields within the main concourse for an immersive brand experience as fans make their way to their seats. At the team store, wave graphics jump from wall to window, playfully integrating this malleable motif in unexpected ways.

YDI also redesigned the identity for the Tackle Box, the Baysox’s team store. Dimensinoal signage advertises the space across the concourse, and a large circular badge logo painted on the wall showcases its hook icon that forms a “TB” monogram.

YDI had fun integrating the brand’s blue crab into the stadium’s architecture. Open walls on both sides of the Upper Deck were a perfect fit for giant painted claws, which liven up the exterior space along with playful murals of the full crab character.

Adding to a growing portfolio of custom play structures, YDI designed a climbable tower complete with multiple slides for the Baysox playground in the form of a lighthouse, bedecked in brand colors and topped with a team flag.

The scoreboard at Prince George’s Stadium features a unique YDI-designed sign. An open can letter version of the team’s script logo is illuminated by LED neon for a classic effect, and it sits atop a similarly-lit representation of the area’s iconic Bay Bridge – emphasizing the local pride that drove the team’s brand refresh.

Throughout Prince George’s Stadium, YDI found innovative ways to weave the Baysox story throughout the architecture. The Chesapeake region and its distinct iconography is celebrated in everything from large illuminated signage, to painted graphics, to jerseys and more.
