The addition of Uniqlo as the new field sponsor at Dodger Stadium presented YDI with a design challenge: to integrate new large-scale signage into the visual landscape of the ballpark, while remaining true to both the Uniqlo brand as well as the stadium’s existing iconic mid-century aesthetic. From material choices to lighting choices, YDI balanced the visual language of both stadium and brand create a cohesive experience.
These large signs were fabricated by Jones Sign and feature painted corrugated metal panels with internally-illuminated lettering, allowing for maximum sponsor visibility at all times of day. The corrugated metal recalls other signs throughout Dodger Stadium, sponsor and team alike. A rooftop sign is even scaled up to be seen by air traffic passing over the ballpark.
Another important aspect of the design challenge YDI faced was merging the new identity of Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium with the existing visual language of iconic spaces such as the Centerfield Gate. YDI used matching typography to update these locations and remain true to the previous signage at each.
Elsewhere, along the upper deck, another set of dimensional letters welcome Uniqlo to Dodger Stadium. Like the new signage at Centerfield Gate, this message also uses the park’s signature typography to situate the sponsor within the park’s stylistic landscape.
